April 2013 President’s Letter
There’s a lot going on at NEMPA this spring
The most important announcement I have is that our NEMPA-MIT symposium and annual meeting and awards dinner will be held on Thursday, May 9, at the impressive MIT Media Lab.
OK, New Year’s Day has passed but my family celebrates the Jan. 6 holiday, so happy Three Kings Day! For once I’m early with a letter.
Just a quick letter this month— I can’t stress enough how important it is for manufacturers to start getting vehicles into the NEMPA fleet for the Winter Car of New England competition. It’s been said before, but: The best way to be earn a Winter Car award is to get vehicles into the fleet early—and [...]
It’s hard to believe that September is already here and my girls have started school. What doubly surprises me is we have to start talking about New England Winter Vehicle of the Year. Sure, it’s 80 degrees outside as I sit at my computer, but it’s time to start thinking about winter. We know there are long lead times in ordering vehicles.
June Greetings—Was really trying to get this letter out by June 1, but sometimes life and work get in the way. I hate when that happens.
This April letter comes to you with a couple of days left in March because of next week’s New York International Auto Show and the Easter/Passover holiday that follows it.
Excuse me for the delay in getting this president’s letter out more than a week into March. There have been changes afoot that had me hold off. Let me start by saying there is no March NEMPA meeting. We had a busy February with our winter awards judging, a Mazda presentation at our February meeting (itself moved to accommodate Valentine’s Day) and a Buick presentation at John Lawlor’s headquarters—a great space to do a program.
As I write this, the Groundhog has seen his shadow, which portends six more weeks of winter. As long as it’s six more weeks of winter like we’ve been enjoying here in New England, then I’m not complaining. But something tells me we’re not going to be so lucky.
Now that everybody is back to work, it’s time to look ahead to a couple of busy months for NEMPA, and then to look back at the year gone by.
