February 2012 President’s Letter

Greetings,

As I write this, the Groundhog has seen his shadow, which portends six more weeks of winter. As long as it’s six more weeks of winter like we’ve been enjoying here in New England, then I’m not complaining. But something tells me we’re not going to be so lucky.

Upcoming Events

• Speaking of winter, NEMPA is not letting any icicles form on its feet in February, with Winter Vehicle judging as our next event, on Feb. 11 at Automotion headquarters. NEMPA media members will gather to judge the entries in our prestigious Winter Vehicle of the Year competition.

Some manufacturers have done a great job with entries, so much that it’s going to be a difficult vote for me this year. Others have not stepped up. We don’t like late entries, but there is still time to enter a vehicle. Contact John Lawlor to arrange vehicle delivery.

• Next on our schedule is a presentation by Mazda of its new Sky-Activ technology on Feb. 16 at the Boston Globe at 6:30 p.m. (Note that the meeting date has changed from Feb. 14.) Mazda engineer Dave Coleman will explain how Sky-Activ reduces fuel consumption and CO2 emissions for all Mazda models while still maintaining their “Zoom, Zoom” driving fun.

• On Feb. 21, Buick will preview the 2012 Buick Verano and Regal GS at Automotion (fast becoming the go-to spot for vehicle introductions in New England). The Verano and Regal GS automatic and manual will be available for driving starting at 4:30, followed by dinner and a presentation by Buick engineering and marketing experts. Vehicles will be available for driving afterward, too.

MIT Conference & Ragtop Ramble

Mark your calendars: Our professional seminar and annual general meeting will take place at MIT on May 10. The Ragtop Ramble is set for July 20, with the dinner cruise the evening before. We’re working on some very special additions to these events, to help mark NEMPA’s 25th anniversary, so stay tuned for more information.

Dinner Receipts

You can now go to our website, www.nempa.org, and just above our logo you’ll see the word “receipt.” Click on it, enter your password, download and print. It’s a much more efficient way to get your monthly dinner-meeting receipts. Don’t have a password? Email [email protected] to get hooked up.

Have a great month. Let’s hope those Presidents Days sales are especially robust.
