October 2012 President’s Letter

Just a quick letter this month—

I can’t stress enough how important it is for manufacturers to start getting vehicles into the NEMPA fleet for the Winter Car of New England competition. It’s been said before, but: The best way to be earn a Winter Car award is to get vehicles into the fleet early—and then let them stay so that most of us get a shot at driving them.

A two-week visit just doesn’t cut it. We can’t vote a car the best in New England if we all we get is a brief taste at our winter judging event in February.

And keep in mind that the Jeep Grand Cherokee won two years in a row, so it’s not just the very latest and greatest that come under consideration by our media members. Send us the vehicles you want to sell—which, I imagine, is all of them.

A first-of-its-kind event takes place on Wednesday, October 10, when NEMPA visits one of the world’s great art museums. The Boston Museum of Fine Arts, one of our judging partners in the Ritvo Award for Design & Elegance, has invited all NEMPA members to an exclusive showing of a private automotive art collection. It should be a great evening. If you haven’t yet, please RSVP to the invitation you’ve already received.

It makes me shiver just to write this, but our holiday party is only about 10 weeks away. Save the date of December 11. It’s been a long time since we were at the Boston Globe, but that’s where our annual shindig will be. Santa Claus has been planning the party since last December 26 and it promises to be a good one. (If you can, set aside an item or two for our gift bag. As always, your generosity is appreciated.)

Finally, I’d like to thank Tom & Ray Magliozzi for 35 years of great radio as the hosts of Car Talk. NEMPA member George Kennedy did a great piece on their retirement. Check it out at http://www.boston.com/cars/news-and-reviews/2012/09/24/bdc-cartalk/hocNgTW91LLiJDstHoFcaI/story.html

Smooth travels. See you soon.

Keith
